Chapter 14
It took Ali damn near three months to raise the money to bury her mom in a nice fashion. She didn’t have not one ounce of help. I did as much as I could, but I was trying to save also. She stood on the corners of busy highways with her baby brother holding signs trying to get the money up then one day she was at her breaking point and was about to give up and was blessed to get what she desired.
Today was Ms. Laura’s funeral, Ali asked me if I could join. I was going to be her moral support. I loved Ms. Laura; she was so lovable and generous, and she was judged because of her dangerous addiction that led her to other treacherous acts that gave her an early expiration date. I wasn’t really into funerals, the last funeral I attended was when my cousin Lila lost her daughter Lacey. Lila took her eyes off her for thirty seconds and BAM! She was gone in a flash. Lacey was about six years old when she tried to save her bike and became a victim of a hit and run. That's another reason she never came outside to try and at least keep her other kids safe.
I was impressed at the reflection that stared back at me in the full body length mirror that hung on my bedroom wall. I wore an all-black dress that complimented my sensuous curves, followed by all black pumps. My makeup was on point, and I was as ready as I was going to get.
Before I left, I wanted to talk to my mom to see if she was doing okay. She has been so busy with her unfinished assignments for work she spent most of her time in our home office.
"Hey ma," she turned around, and her eyes lit up like fireworks.
"My Rylee, you are so beautiful," she complimented.
A smile crept across my face. She always knew how to make me feel beautiful.
"Thanks, ma, are you okay?"
She sighed deeply, "yes baby just trying to get things finished before the meeting with my boss."
I gave her a kiss on the cheek showing her love.
"I love you, ma; it’s time for me to go. Pray for me mama" I insisted.
I needed all of the strength I could get.
Centuries by the fall out boys blasted as I pulled up to the funeral. The music caused an array of eyes to zoom in on me as I got out of my car. I walked my pretty ass in the church, and instantly my whole mood changed when I recognized Ms. Laura sleeping peacefully.
I couldn’t imagine the pain Ali was in, but I felt really bad for her baby brother Aaron. As I walked to the front of the church to show my respects to Ms. Laura as she laid there lifeless, I noticed Naye had arrived. She was fly, but the attraction flew out the window the moment I saw her hugging Ali.
